Introduction

Nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka, the Peradeniya Botanical Garden is a breathtaking destination that attracts nature lovers, botanists, and tourists from all over the world. The origins of the Peradeniya Botanical Garden date back to 1371, during the reign of King Wickramabahu III, who used it as a royal pleasure garden. However, it was formally established as a botanical garden in 1821 by the British colonial rulers. Since then, it has evolved into one of Asia’s most important botanical gardens, hosting over 4,000 species of plants.
